Flour Sack Waving

I decided to jump a few exercises. Instead of doing character head turns, I decided to animate a flour sack first. In fact, right now I'll be alternating between a character and the flour sack until I finish the first level of the exercises. So, this is the eighth of the exercises - a flour sack waving in a loop:

Simple Head Turn

Forth assignment from the list. This is a simple character head turn. I haven't thought much into the character. It is just a girl looking from one end to another in amazement I guess.

New Assigment: Animation51

This is a new personal assignment : 51 great animation exercises to master

I believe most of these exercises are more relevant and more achievable in 2D animation but that is no excuse to try them in 3D.

Drawing from Imagination - 2 point perspective

This was a two-point perspective assignment. The assignment was to draw a 2 point grid, draw an interior and finally light it with an artificial light.

First the two point grid:

Then the overlay:

and finally the interior:

This didn't turn out that well. The line weight is all messed up and the drawing is not that clear.
However the lighting turned out really well. For artificial lighting, every wall/surface has a different base point for the light. So doing shadows for the staircase was very complicated and time consuming. But the hard work did pay off!
This is the overlay for the artificial light shadows.
and that's the final. I could still add some more detailing with some blending and some form shadows, but I'll leave that for later.

Thesis Animatic

This is my thesis animatic. It is quite crappy right now. The story needs a lot of development. I'm thinking of placing the cat in the attic with a bunch of other broken toys. Lets see how that turns out.

My friend Wini sent me a cat character design for my cat:

Some more references

Here is a cool animation reference for a running dog

And one awesome tiger reference! I wonder why we did not see this before, when I had to animate a tiger. I guess I've just become better at reference searching now ;D

The Fall Semester

Crazy funny looking walk cycles and animation, insanely complex yet simple drawing from imagination and a very random Pre-production work. That seems to sum up Fall 2010 for me..

Some of the animation work that I have been working on.

And some Drawing from Imagination:

This is the 1 point grid for my drawing

This is the overlay

And this is the final drawing! Quite simple for the final drawing, huh!! But its not that bad!
The next assignment was to add shadows
This is the overlay for natural lighting.
And this is the final drawing................................

More to come!!!!!

Summer Classes

Phew!!! I never realized that the summer classes would be so hectic. The Story-boarding classes are really interesting but the assignments almost kill! But the good thing is, the character animation class is beginning to get interesting. I started off with an assignment to shoot and kill a chef... lol! Well I guess, the instructor wanted to see how much and how well I could animate... and also to check timing and spacing and weight etc. etc. So here it is:

Can't wait to get started on the dialog piece!! wooohoooo...........
